We use tactical asset allocation theory for managing our clients’ investments. Traditional asset allocation is well explained for layman in the book called Asset Allocation by Roger Gibson and is the basis for our investment methodology. A more advanced topic is tactical asset allocation and is described by Yale University’s portfolio manager David Swensen in his book Pioneering Portfolio Management. Mr. Swensen assumes the reader is already familiar with the university taught theory called asset allocation before they read his book.
For those who are interested in the math behind the models you can read Harry Markowitz’s book Portfolio Selection. Mr. Markowitz won a Nobel Prize in economics for his ground breaking work on modern portfolio theory in the 1950s.
